Mitsubishi TV Remote Not Working: Reasons and DIY Fixes

by admin September 13, 2023 0 Comment 19 min read

Is your Mitsubishi TV remote not working all of a sudden? There are a number of reasons why your remote has not been working. The most common are obstructions, battery issues, issues with the infrared sensor, etc. Since it is a minor issue, you can easily rectify it all by yourself and there is no need to buy a new replacement remote for Mitsubishi TV.

This article will explain simple troubleshooting methods to fix the Mitsubishi TV remote that is not working.

Why is My Mitsubishi TV Remote Not Working

If the Mitsubishi TV remote is not responding to any commands, it could be due to the following reasons

SCENARIOREASONS
1The remote will not respond if the batteries are running out of charge
2If the remote buttons are stuck due to an accumulation of excessive dirt
3Due to IR-signal interference by other devices, the remote may be unresponsive
4If there is a visible sign of physical damage on the remote’s IR emitter
5If you are too far from Mitsubishi TV, the remote won’t send signals to the TV
6If the Mitsubishi TV encounters a technical error, the remote may not work

DIY Fixes for Mitsubishi TV Remote Not Working

You can try these workarounds one by one to fix the Mitsubishi TV remote not working issue.

Change the Batteries

The major reason for the Mitsubishi TV remote to stop working is the batteries. If the batteries have insufficient charge, you will be experiencing slow responsiveness on the remote. Therefore, you need to check and replace the batteries with newer ones. Before replacing the batteries, clean the battery terminals and make sure to insert the batteries correctly. After changing, check if the remote is working fine or not.

Change the Batteries to fix Mitsubishi TV Remote Not Working

Note: You can also fix the Akai TV remote not working issue by replacing the batteries if they are drained completely.

Check the IR Emitter

Since the Mitsubishi TV remote uses the IR emitter, you need to ensure there is no defect or damage to the IR sensor. To check if the IR emitter has an issue or not, open the Camera app on your smartphone. Aim the top end of the remote towards the smartphone’s rear camera. Now press the remote keys randomly and check if you can see the blinking light on the smartphone screen. If you cannot see any light, you can confirm that the remote’s LED has an issue. In this case, you can repair the remote or buy a replacement remote for a Mitsubishi TV.

Check the IR emitter of the Mitsubishi TV remote

Note: If you feel that the replacement remote is costly, use the IR blaster remote app as a virtual remote for Mitsubishi TV on your Android smartphone.

Power Cycle Mitsubishi Remote

If there is any residual power left inside the Mitsubishi TV remote, power cycling will help you clear it. Pop out the batteries from the remote control. Press and hold the Power button for at least 10-15 seconds to drain the residual power. Ensure that there is no dust inside the remote compartment and reinsert the batteries into the remote. Test the remote control to see whether it works without any issues.

Power Cycle the remote

Remove the Obstructions

It is necessary to remove the obstructions or other IR-based devices that cause interference to the Mitsubishi TV remote function. If you place a speaker or showpiece in front of the TV sensor, it will block the incoming signal from the Mitsubishi TV remote. Also, you must operate the remote in a direct line of sight at a distance of fewer than 30 feet to make it work properly.

Clean the Remote

Another reason for the Mitsubishi TV remote not working is the accumulation of excessive dirt on the remote keys. Since remotes are made up of plastic and rubber material, there is a high chance for dirt or gunk to settle between the buttons. Sometimes, excessive dirt will get the remote keys stuck inside. Hence, you should clean the remote at least once a week with the help of a microfiber cotton cloth and 99% isopropyl alcohol solution.

Power Cycle the Mitsubishi TV

If you think the issue is with your TV, not the remote, power cycle your Mitsubishi TV. Turn off your Mitsubishi TV by pressing the physical power button. Unplug the TV cord from the wall socket, wait for one to two minutes, and keep your TV stay off. Plug the TV cord back into the source and turn on your Mitsubishi TV. Press any button on the remote to check whether your TV is responding to the remote commands or not.

Power cycle the TV

Hard Reset Mitsubishi TV

If nothing works, factory resetting is the one-last solution that would help to bring your Mitsubishi TV to its initial settings. Also, it will fix the Mitsubishi TV remote not working issue.

[1] Locate the Reset button on the front/back panel of the TV.

[2] Use any sharp objects like a toothpick, pen, or needle, and press and hold the Reset button.

[3] Keep holding the Reset button until the Mitsubishi TV turns on by itself.

[4] Now, your TV will revert to its default settings and check whether the remote issues are sorted out or not.

Note: If you can’t find the Reset button, check how to reset a Mitsubishi TV without a remote and try the alternative ways.

Use Mitsubishi TV Remote App

If you are not interested in buying a remote, use the Mitsubishi TV remote app on your smartphone to control the TV virtually. Although there is no official remote app for Mitsubishi TV, there are numerous third-party universal remote apps in the Play Store. You can use those remote apps for free if your smartphone has an IR blaster.
